An update on all things IC | December 2016.

Dear Member,

Welcome to the final edition of the Institute of Consulting newsletter for 2016.

Firstly I wanted to just share with you our disappointment at not being able to update you with the positive news from Privy Council for the Chartered Management Consultant (ChMC). You will read in the update below that we continue to explore all possible avenues in order to progress this.

However in more exciting news, we are delighted that the IC’s chosen entry for this year’s Constantinus International Awards 2016, the Beech Centre, walked away with the Silver medal at the ceremony which took place in Toronto on 20 October 2016. The full write up appears below but I’m sure you will join me in congratulating all at the Beech Centre for their achievement.

This edition also includes feedback directly from our colleagues at the International Council of Management Consulting Institutes (ICMCI), on both the Constantinus Awards event as well as the CMC Annual Congress which also took place in Toronto this October.

Finally I am delighted to announce that we will shortly be launching a refreshed IC website. The web address will not be changing so do continue to visit www.iconsulting.org.uk.

We thank you for your continued support for the IC and welcome any feedback you may have. Please contact us via membership@iconsulting.org.uk.

Kind regards,

Simon Bowen MBA FInstLM, CMgr FCMI

Director of Member Engagement

IC NOMINEE THE BEECH CENTRE BRINGS HOME SILVER FOR BRITAIN AT CONSTANTINUS INTERNATIONAL AWARDS

Donna | Constantinus Award

CMI and Institute of Consulting member The Beech Centre for People, Performance and Organisational Development won silver at the prestigious Constantinus International Global Management Consultancy awards in Toronto in October.

Beech were nominated for the awards by IC as a result of their work with The Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability (RHN) in London over the last three years. The RHN is a ground breaking medical charity working to improve the lives of people with severe brain injury. Beech worked with the RHN to effect a fundamental change in the way they cared for their patients. This resulted in higher quality care to extremely vulnerable patients, while streamlining the operating efficiency of the organisation and making savings of many times the investment. Huge congratulations to The Beech Centre!

CHARTERED MANAGEMENT CONSULTANT APPROVAL STILL AWAITED

As communicated in previous newsletters,’ Chartered Management Consultant’ has not yet received formal approval from the Privy Council, such that it can be incorporated into our Bye-laws and we can move into the implementation phase. We are confident that we are close to gaining approval but we await that final step. We will continue to keep you informed.

In the meantime, discussions are ongoing – within the Board of Trustees, IC Advisory Committee, and with the Management Consultancies Association, our potential partner for ChMC – so that we are ready to move ahead as and when we gain Privy Council approval. As previously indicated, ChMC has to work not only for the IC member community, principally sole practitioners and smaller consultancies; but also for the larger firms. Development of a compelling proposition for these audiences is critical to success. Current activities include scenario planning, market research activity, discussions with representatives from firms that are members of MCA – to secure tangible evidence on the appetite for ChMC in practice, and propensity for consultants and firms to invest in it.

So, the current hiatus with the Privy Council is frustrating, but the time is being put to good use in terms of sizing up the market, talking with key players, and discussing potential partnership arrangements with MCA.

We will keep members informed of developments.
